Three dead, three injured in Lagos, Edo auto crashes

An early morning accident on Friday in Lagos claimed the life of a mini truck driver and injured three others as the truck crashed into a trailer.
The accident occurred at 5.30am at TREM Church Bus Stop on Gbagada Expressway as the truck was said to have run into the trailer belonging to the Dangote Group of Companies.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the truck, with registration number LSR-160XA ,was carrying bags of Sunar sachet water.
The moving trailer had registration number XC 485-GML.
A witness, Muyhideen Oluwake, told NAN that the three injured occupants of the mini truck were working with the company producing the sachet water.
He said that the injured persons had been taken to a nearby hospital.
The eyewitness said: “I closed from work and was going home when I saw the ‘pure’ water truck run under this trailer but the trailer was moving.
“It did not stop.
“Maybe. because of the heavy load, the driver couldn’t move faster.
“I don’t know what happened to the ‘pure’ water driver’.
Maybe, he slept.
“Maybe, he didn’t see the trailer clearly.
“I am one of the people who rescued the three boys that were occupants of the truck, but we were unable to rescue the driver who was trapped in the truck.
“I had to call LASTMA, ambulance services and even the manager of the ‘pure’ water company to tell them that an accident had happened.”
Confirming the incident, Kehinde Adewusi, Head of Operations, Lagos State Transport Management Authority, Zone 4, Oshodi, told NAN that both the dead and the injured had been taken to a hospital.
NAN reports that the driver of the trailer was taken into protective custody by the police to prevent a mob attack on him.
From Edo State comes the report that two passengers in a saloon car were feared dead early on Friday as a tanker transporting petroleum products on the Auchi-Okene Highway at Auchi ran over it.
NAN reports that the accident, involving a Toyota Carina 11 saloon car with registration number: Ondo AH 268 KAA, and a tanker with plate number: XA 559 KRT, occurred around 8.30am.
The tanker was said to be coming from Lagos and ran over the car, killing the two passengers in it.
An eyewitness, Ahmed Ibrahim, said that the tanker driver allegedly lost control and crushed the driver and another passenger in the car.
“The tanker driver was coming from Lagos and suddenly ran over the Toyota car coming from the opposite direction, killing the two passengers inside the car.”
A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the scene of the accident observed that the content of the tanker spilled on the surroundings after the accident, while some motorists and residents around the scene scooped the commodity.
Officials of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad later arrived at the scene to chase the people away, for fear of a possible explosion.
NAN, however, noted that the people defied the presence of the SARS officials as they continued to scoop the commodity, especially having experienced its scarcity in the area, for some time.
NAN also reports that some officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps were also immediately available, to control traffic on the highway.
Some FRSC officials were directed to deposit the bodies of those feared dead in a public mortuary at Auchi, while they also made attempts to contact their families.
