Tension in Akwa Ibom as deputy governor resigns

There is tension in Akwa Ibom State following the resignation on Wednesday of the state Deputy Governor, Nsima Ekere.
The deputy governor said he resigned for “personal reasons.”
The resignation was confirmed by Ekere’s Press Secretary, Inem Inah.
It was learnt that Ekere fell out with his boss and Governor of the state, Obong Godwill Akpabio, over permutations for the 2015 governorship election.
While the deputy governor is angling to succeed Akpabio, it was learnt that the governor favours the Secretary to the State Government, Umana Okon Umana, to replace him in 2015.
Sources said with his resignation, Ekere may have signalled the commencement of the battle for the 2015 governorship election in Akwa Ibom State.
The former deputy governor fought for the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party against Akpabio ahead of the 2011 election.
Akpabio reportedly got the ticket in a close race.
