A new Speaker was on Monday elected for the Taraba State House of Assembly after the impeachment of Istifanus Gbana.
The new Speaker is Haruna Tsokwa, while the Deputy Speaker is Tanko Maikarfi.
Joseph Albasu was also elected as the Majority Leader.
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported Mr. Gbana’s impeachment on Monday morning.
The former speaker and his deputy were removed by 17 out of the 24 members of the Assembly.
Both men did not attend Monday’s sitting.
Mr. Gbana was the immediate past National Chairman of the Speakers Forum.
He had in February survived an impeachment scare when 18 out of the 24 members of the Assembly passed a vote of confidence on his leadership.
