Tambuwal, Yari spend N100m to fix Sokoto-Gusau highway

The Sokoto and Zamfara governments spent N100 million to repair the 214-km Sokoto-Gusau federal highway to ease traffic challenges on the road, a statement issued in Sokoto on Monday stated.
The statement by Malam Imam Imam, the Spokesman for Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, noted that the road, which span through Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina to Kaduna states was repaired to alleviate the sufferings of users and checkmate road traffic accidents.
Imam said: “The two states combined resources to fix the road as it is the main link between their capitals and other parts of the country.
“It is one of the most important roads in the North West because it connects to other routes leading to neighbouring Niger Republic.”
The spokesman, who did not include how much each government spent on the road, however, said that Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara fixed the Gusau-Tureta local government portion of the road, while Tambuwal provided funds for the route between Tureta Local Government and Sokoto town.
He added that a submission would be made to Federal Government for refund since the highway belonged to it.
He added: “The important thing is to achieve zero pot hole on crucial routes and this has been achieved.
“The effort has enhanced safety of vehicles and commuters and improved movement of goods, especially agricultural products as it is one of the major zone in the country.”
