The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the assassination of the ex-militant leader, calling for calm.
This became known on Saturday following a video that was posted on Twitter by a yet-to-be-known source showing his present state
The CP presented the money to the next-of-kins of the dead officers at the Police Command’s headquarters in Yenagoa on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba.
A statement issued Saturday by the Command’s Spokesman, SP Asinim Butswat, said the squad would commence operation on Monday, July 4, 2022.
The new CP takes over from CP Echeng E. Echeng, earlier redeployed to the Anambra State Police Command
The suspected male ritualist, Sunday Favour Ojo, who hails from Edo State, was arrested on September 21, 2021.
The Commissioner, Bayelsa State Police Command, Echeng Echeng, confirmed the development on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Igbifa was on his way to Abuja on May 25 for a scheduled meeting with the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Office, retired Colonel Milland Dikio, when the incident happened.
Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of Police and spokesman of the Command, confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria in Yenagoa.
He gave the directive on December 18 at the Police Officers Mess in Yenagoa during the end of year gathering of senior police officers.
The incident happened when a 40-year-old jealous lover, Etifa Obukulubu, set the home of his girlfriend on fire over suspicion of cheating.
A statement on Wednesday in Yenagoa by SP Asimin Butswat, the Public Relations Officer of the Bayelsa State Police Command, said the attempted kidnap occurred on September 10.
The police also rescued along with her some workers of Shell Petroleum Development Company kidnapped two months ago.
