Supreme Court to Ohakim: You have to wait till March 2

The desire of a former Governor of Imo State and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the April 26, 2011 gubernatorial election, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, to have the Supreme Court nullify the election of the the candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance and the Governor of the state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, is to wait till March 2, 2012, so says the Supreme Court.
At today’s hearing of the application brought before the Supreme Court by Ohakim, the highest court in the country took the arguments of lawyers to all parties in the suit.

The five-man panel was led by Justice Walter Onnoghen.
The counsel of both Ohakim and the PDP, Chief Wole Olanikpekun, urged the Supreme Court to set aside the decision of the two lower courts that dismissed Ohakim’s case and declare him the winner.
However, Okorocha’s counsel, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, argued that Ohakim did not win the election.
Counsel to the Independent National Electoral Commission, Chief Alex Izyon, agreed with Akintola.
Ohakim and the PDP are asking the apex court to nullify the result of the supplementary election held on May 6, 2011 and declare him the winner of the election based on the outcome of the first election on April 26, 2011.
