The Congress of University Academics (CONUA) has urged the Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian public universities to order re-opening of the tertiary institutions for the commencement of academic activities in line with the judgement of the National Industrial Court, Abuja, Wednesday.
The body made the call in a press release signed by its National Coordinator, ‘Niyi Sunmonu.
.
CONUA stated its call became imperative as the court is one of the recognised tools of democratic engagement in the country.
It noted that since CONUA members have not been on strike, re-opening the universities will make it possible to duly continue work, stem the restlessness among the students who have had their studies interrupted and facilitated the restoration of peace to the nation.
The Eagleonline reports that CONUA has since declared its opposition to the over seven-month old industrial action called by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU)
