The Sokoto State Government has acquired 172 electricity transformers worth over N623.2 million to boost power supply, the Commissioner for Rural Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu, has said.
The commissioner told newsmen in Sokoto on Tuesday that the transformers have 200 KVA, 300KVA and 500 KVA capacities.
Maigwandu said: “The transformers are being warehoused at the Central Stores of the ministry in Sokoto.
“These transformers will soon be distributed to various communities across the state for installation.
“The gesture is aimed at boosting power supply in the state, with a view to facilitating more socioeconomic activities.”
Maigwandu disclosed that Governor Aminu Tambuwal had approved the purchase of 208 generators at the cost of N399 million for installation in various rural water schemes across the 23 local governments of the state, to boost water supply.
