A 63-year-old man, Kehinde Oyetubo, who allegedly obtained N5 million under the pretence of subletting two duplexes, on Monday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Oyetubo, whose residential address was not given, however pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Antonia Osayande, told the court that Oyetubo committed the alleged offences between Jan. 1 and April 30 at No. 55, Coker St., Ilupeju, Lagos.
Osayande alleged that Oyetubo fraudulently obtained N5 million from the complainant, Olufemi Shobo, who never moved into a duplex he paid for.
The prosecutor added that the complainant was not refunded.
She alleged that the sexagenarian avoided Shobo until his arrest.
The prosecutor submitted that the defendant contravened Sections 287 and 315 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Adewale Ojo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties.
Ojo said the sureties must be the defendant’s blood relation and show evidence of three years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until July 21 for trial.
