An elder statesman and former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Chief Don Obot Etiebet, has mourned a former Federal Commissioner of Information and Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, who passed on February 17, 2025 at 97, describing him as a fallen big iroko tree.
He spoke in a statement he personally signed, entitled: “Oh, the BIG IROKO TREE of South South has fallen. What a great tragedy!”
In the statement, Etiebet said Clark rendered great service to the nation, his people and bequeathed great leadership legacies to this generation that would be difficult to match by future generations.
He said: “We give thanks to God for his great life of service to the nation, to his people, and for bequeathing great legacies of leadership to us that will be difficult to match for generations.
“For us in the South-South, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, CON, was a father, a pillar of strength, a leader to run to, depend and rely on, a symbol of unity and an audacious voice of hope for equity, peace, justice and development. We were very proud of and excited about him.

“We will sorely miss him as he finally departed from the waiting lounge at 97 years of age.
“My dear Chief, Leader of leaders, Politician of all politicians, Lover of all lovers, Emancipator of all emancipators, Philanthropist of all philanthropists and the great educationist, we shall miss you but God loves you more to call you to be with Him after your great and remarkable services on earth.
“May your great soul rest in perfect peace.
