Cattle rustlers on Friday killed one Tanko Nyam, a cattle breeder in Kyaru village, Daddu District of Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The News Agency of Nigeria learnt that the deceased was killed in the early hours of the day when he trailed the rustlers who carted away 20 cows belonging to him.
The District Head of Daddu, Bello Shamaki, told NAN that the deceased, alongside others, trailed the rustlers from Kyari village to Kagoma in Jema’a Local Government Area.
“The rustlers noticed he was trailing them and, therefore, shot and killed him instantly, after setting his motorcycle ablaze,” Shamaki said.
The district head said the others who trailed the rustlers alongside the deceased subsequently took cover in nearby bushes.
He expressed concern over the spate of cattle rustling in the area and called on government to take drastic measures to stem the menace.
He said the ugly trend had always led to wanton loss of lives and property besides the trauma that often trailed such attacks.
Also confirming the incident, Philip Galadima, the Director of Personnel Management at the local Government, said the local authority had met with the stakeholders, especially security agents to discuss ways of enhancing security in the area.
Galadima appealed to the people not to take the law into their hands by avoiding any act that could lead to a breach of the peace.
