Nigeria boss Gernot Rohr has piled praise on Rangers star Joe Aribo after his international debut.
The midfielder scored the opening goal of the game just three minutes into his first appearance to the delight of Bordeaux legend Rohr.
Aribo still has to play a competitive game for Nigeria before he’s officially tied to the African nation, but that is likely to come in November when they take on Benin in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.
And Rohr is clearly a big fan of his after giving the 23-year-old his maiden call up just weeks after he made the move from Charlton to Rangers.
It was an unusual team for Nigeria but Rohr was delighted with how they performed, and in particular Aribo.
“And our strikers with the quickness, our wingers, our midfield and even behind. You know that eight players from the AFCON were not here and we had to replace them.
“This team is the youngest one I’ve ever coached in Nigeria. The average age is not even 23, it is 22.8 from the starting team. There was big satisfaction against one of the best teams in Europe.
“They lead their qualification group and have some world champions from the U20 World Cup in the list for the match.
“It was a very interesting game for us and I hope that the team will still progress.”
Aribo has impressed for Steven Gerrard’s side since making the move to Glasgow and played a huge part in two of the three goals against Livingston on Saturday.
He made the run across the front post to catch out Ross Stewart and allow James Tavernier’s free kick to go straight in before his flicked header set up Alfredo Morelos for the second goal.
