The Minister/Deputy Chairman, National Planning Commission, Dr. Shamsuddeen Usman, at the weekend in Abuja explained that the review of the First National Implementation Plan (1st NIP) of NV20:2020 is very necessary and significant to determine the progress that has been made in the plan so far
Usman’s explanation was contained in his response during the formal presentation of the report of the Central Working Group and the Technical Working Groups on the review of the First National Implementation Plan of NV20:2020.
The ceremonial presentation of the report took place at Reiz Intercontinental Hotel, Abuja on Friday.
The minister also mentioned that the review of the 1st NIP is crucial to government’s effort to reposition the nation’s economy to be among the biggest in the world by 2020
He said: “The review is necessary and important as this will help determine progress made in the plan and also crucial to government’s effort to re position the nation’s economy to be among the biggest in the world by year 2020.”
Usman further restated that the NIPs of the vision were designed by the National Planning Commission to fast track the achievement of desired results of turning the economy to a greater height.
Accordingly also, he pointed out that strategic planning is coming back to Nigeria and urged the states, government’s ministries, departments and agencies to develop their own strategic plan, drawing from the nation’s strategic plan approach
Usman also dismissed insinuations that the Infrastructure Master Plan is a distraction to the vision 2020, arguing that the infrastructure development plan has its place in the vision 2020 plan.
He then called for the setting up of strong Monitoring and Evaluation Departments in states.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the CWG, Chief Moses Akpobasa, who was a former Director General of Budget and Planning, said the 1st NIP was well executed by the Federal Government and states, especially in the area of agriculture and educational reforms.
