An All Progressives Congress House of Representatives candidate, Ikechukwu Ugwuegede, says reckless spending is the bane of judicious use of constituency funds.
Ugwuegede, who is seeking to represent Nsukka/Igboeze South Federal Constituency, made the assertion in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Enugu on Tuesday.
He said that the challenges confronting the development of his constituency was the irresponsible way in which their past representatives recklessly used funds meant for constituency projects.
The candidate, who is also a two-time Commissioner in Enugu State, promised to be transparent and accountable in using constituency project funds meant to develop his constituency if elected.
Ugwuegede said that such funds would go into sinking of boreholes, provision of transformers, creation of jobs through small and medium scale enterprises and provision of ICT and educational facilities to their schools.
He said: “I must ensure probity and transparency as this is the only way to earn the trust of my people if elected.”
He added that government remained a social contract and that he must keep to it by using constituency project funds to develop and empower the people.
Ugwuegede urged eligible voters in the constituency to vote for all the APC candidates in the state for effective representation.
