Qualifiers emerge for National Scrabble Championship

The nation’s most active sports federation, Scrabble, will at the weekend host in the Federal Capital Territory the most prestigious of its numerous championships.
The qualifiers in the states has thrown up so many surprises.

Top ranked players like Moshood Sanni (a former African champion), S. K. Fashola did not qualify from their states.
Take also the case of Abuja where after the qualifiers, Friday Ogbonyomi (a Masters player) and Ehibudu Chux did not qualify.
From the states, the represenatations are Abuja (FCT): John Curtis, Akpan Eddy, Omini Ofem Patrick, Hakeem Kareem, Ebomah Peter, Ekwenugo Emeka.
From Akwa Ibom State: Moses Peter is leading Nsikan Etim, Isong Williams, Bob Okoridem, Nsidibe Frank, Emmanuel Ekpo and Ryan Jacob is the reserve player.
Delta State will be represented by Oghenemere Akpome, Oshevire Awenagha, Edewor Bobor, Oteheri Onota, Rex Ogbakpa and former African champion, Dennis Ikekeregor.
Edo State is represented by Azu Ogbodu, Idahosa Bright, Olueh Godwin, Ejenas Douglas, Eromosele Samuel, Philip Akhigbe and Ogbo Sunny is on the reserve.
Kano State is being represented by Venayori Kinga, Aminu M Mohammed, Kabir Olaiya, Segun Durojaye, Austin Isiekwe and Auwal Ibrahim
Kogi State is presenting Dan Achema, Rich Okotie, Amana Mohammed, John Otaru, Nasiru Jimoh and Steve Ilechukwu.
Lagos State is being led by a Commissioner, Timi Olaitan. Others are Wale Webber Ogedegbe, Oladipupo Akanbi, Umogbai Andrew, Frank Ishiekwene and Tokunbo Olowu.
Ogun State’s fierce team has the likes of Saheed Tayo, Odulele Rotimi, Adeagbo Tunde, Sobowale Olumide, Afolayan Bukunmi, Quadri Fatai, with the reserve player being Adekansi Adebisi.
Osun State is running two players in Oladokun Esan and Olaniyi Esan, who, incidentally, are brothers.
Oyo State’s squad is led by Balogun Rashid, with icons like Seun Oyeleke, Raji Kazeem, Adeola Woody, Adegbola Abiola and Titunyemi Odun.
Rivers State has Sunday Oshodi, anthony Ikolo, Raymond Gbaraba, Osikhena Ojior, Julius Tetteh, the NSF’s Technical Director, Mpakaboari Jack.
The National Scrabble Championship will hold from April 6 to 8, 2012 in Abuja.
The format of play is 24 games using AU pair, 18 rounds of Australian draws (no repeat) and six rounds of King of the Hills.
