The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion and confirmation of acting appointments of 250 senior Police Officers.
The Head, Press and Public Relations of the commission, Ikechukwu Ani, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
The affected officers are: CP Etop James and Rasheed Akintunde who were promoted to the next rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police, while it confirmed acting appointments of six Deputy Commissioners of Police to commissioners of police.
Ani said that CP Donald Awunah, former Force Public Relations Officer, and former CP of Akwa Ibom State, Hafiz Inuwa, now of the police command in Cross River State, were among those whose appointments were confirmed
Others are: 15 DCPs to CPs, 54 ACPs and one acting deputy commissioners of police to DCP and 165 CSPs to ACPs and eight DSPs to Superintendent of Police (SP).
Ani said that the approval were some of the high points of the commission’s 24th Plenary Meeting held in Abuja.
The spokesman said the Chairman of the commission, Mike Okiro, charged the newly-promoted officers to continue to discharge their duties with respect for the rule of law and fear of God.
Okiro said the commission would continue to ensure that promotions in the Nigeria Police Force were regular and guided by merit, seniority and availability of vacancies.
He said the promotions and other decisions of the commission had been conveyed to the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, for implementation.
