Presidency reacts to alleged ‘Yorubanisation’ of security sector

The Presidency has reacted to the alleged “Yorubanisation” of the security sector.

The allegation was made following the appointment of a Yoruba man, General Olufemi Oluyede, as the acting Chief of Army State.

Oluyede is to act pending the return of the COAS, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, who has been ill.

Critics had taken on President Bola Tinubu for not appointing someone from another zone to act for Lagbaja, who is also a Yoruba man.

But reacting to the criticism, the Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation to the President, Sunday Dare, said the Yorubas are not dominating the security sector.

Dare, who provided a list of security heads, revealed that there are other zones that had more security chiefs than the South West.

He said: “Facts do not lie. 

“Below we see laid bare the facts about the regional outlook of President Tinubu’s appointments within 20 security agencies. 

“The label of him favouring Yorubas in the Security set up does not fit. 

“Nigeria we hail thee!”

From the list provided by Dare, the North West has the highest number of appointees, which is eight, with the South West having five and North Central four.

The North East has three appointees, with the South South and South East having one each.
