An Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa has sentenced a police Sergeant, Adamu Baruwa, to death by hanging for murder.
Baruwa was arraigned over his involvement in the death of Kehinde Awoyedo, who was shot dead in Ilesa.
Baruwa was said to have shot Kehinde Awoyedo with an AK-47 gun in Ilesa on August 20, 2008.
He was arraigned on May 11, 2012 and pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of murder.
The prosecution team from the states Ministry of Justice, led by Moses Faremi, appeared along with Bankole Awoyemi.
In proving the case, prosecution called five witnesses, including Amos Awoyelu and Akintola Awoyelu.
The post mortem report of the deceased was presented by Dr. Omoniyi Esan, a consultant pathologist at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The post mortem confirmed the cause of death of the deceased being the gunshot wound sustained.
Justice Abdulrasazak Abdulkareem sentenced Baruwa to death based on the evidence of the prosecution.
He is to die by hanging.
