Pperatives of the Rapid Response Squad, the Ikorodu Police Division of the Lagos State Police Command and some local vigilante in the Ikorodu area of the state have foiled a kidnap attempt made on the Chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Rasaq Alabi.
Alabi would have been whisked away on Saturday night but for the quick response of the police team.
The team was led by the Commander of the RRS, Olatunji Disu, an Assistant Commissioner of Police.
The operatives, while responding to sporadic gunshots at Agbede in Owutu and Agric areas of Ikorodu at about 11.30pm on Saturday, had run into the gang/
Disu confirmed the development.
He said: “We arrived at the Agbede area of Owutu in Ikorodu with the Owutu Divisional Police Officer and discovered the shooting was an attempt to kidnap NUPENG PTD Chairman, Rasaq Alabi.
“It was a quick response of the police and vigilante men that scuttled the kidnap attempt and the man escaped.
“We were also there to carry out the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni’s directive to secure and patrol all these crises areas of Ikorodu and it paid off as we were able to respond in record time.”
