Detectives attached to the Ogun State Police Command have commenced investigation into the suspected murder of a 60-year-old woman, Amoke Musuru, and her granddaughter, Balqis.
Musuru and Balqis were reportedly clubbed to death in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, over the weekend.
Those who killed them were said to have forced their way into the one-room apartment of Musuru and Balqis on Sunday at about midnight.
The attackers reportedly smashed their heads with iron rods.
The children of Musuru, Saburi Moshood and Hakeeb Moshood, told newsmen that the development was shocking.
Saburi and Hakeeb, who were in Abeokuta from their Ibadan, Oyo State base a few hours after the incident, said they will not return to the town again once they leave because there was nothing to come back for.
They said they came into Abeokuta for the re-burial of the corpse of their grand parent because the road expansion in the state capital had eaten into the burial place.
Saburi told newsmen: “We arrived the family home without any foreknowledge of the killing, but we started suspecting something went wrong the way residents were greeting us.
“We went straight to our mother’s room and sadly we found her lifeless body and of the grandchild on the floor.
“The police came, discovered the iron rod used to kill them, took it away as exhibit, and also took away corpses, which were later released for us for burial, and we have since buried them.
“What else are we coming to do here? Our mother was killed alongside with grand daughter.
“Our paternal grandmother could not be re-buried as we planned.
“There is no point in looking back after we leave.”
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident.
Adejobi said investigation was ongoing.
