Police in Abia to deploy crack squads to check security breaches during Easter

The Commissioner of Police in Abia, Anthony Ogbizi, says the command will deploy crack squads to crime prone areas of the state to check security breaches during the Easter celebrations.
Ogbizi said this on Monday in Umuahia at the Police Officers’ Mess while briefing journalists on the activities of the command geared toward reducing crime and criminality in the state.
He assured residents of the state that the command was poised to provide adequate security for lives and property during and after the celebrations.
He said: “My men are on red alert for Easter. We shall not rest until we rid the state of violent crimes.”
The command arrested no fewer than 13 undergraduates of two universities in the state for alleged robbery and cult activities.
He said that two of the suspects from Abia State University, Uturu were arrested during the initiation of new members by Vikings Confraternity at “Guardian Angel bush,” with 25 members in attendance.
The commissioner of police said that the suspects were arrested on March 23, with the assistance of the university security personnel.
He also said that the police, on March 13, arrested a 400 level student of Political Science of the same university.
Ogbizi said that one of the suspects, described as the “kapul of AXE Confraternity,” was arrested, following reports that he was in possession of dangerous weapons in his room.
The police commissioner said that after his arrest, the police conducted a search in his room and recovered seven live cartridges, one small axe, one black and another red initiation cloths and a jack-knife.
He also said that the command arrested three suspects for robbing one Cyril Ugorji, an undergraduate of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike in Abia of his valuables in his apartment.
The police boss said that that the three suspects, arrested on March 17, allegedly belonging to Supreme Eye Confraternity in the university.
He said that the police recovered locally made pistol, machete, one Infinix note cellphone, a black beret and charm from one of them.
The police boss said that all the suspects, now in police custody, would be arraigned in court for prosecution at the end of the investigation.
