Three suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for terrorising residents of Abeokuta, the state capital.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said: “The suspects were arrested after the Divisional Police Officer of Ibara Police Station, a Chief Superintendent of Police, Mr. Adebowale Lawal, received a tip-off about the robbers.”
Items recovered from the suspects are one locally made guns, axes, cutlasses, jack knife and charms.
According to Adejobi, the suspects are Saheed Aro, Akeem Odejinmi and Mustapha Arogundade.
The police image maker fingered Aro as the leader of the gang.
Adejobi said: “The arrest of the gang leader, led to the arrest of the other two members. They were arrested within the metropolis. The gang leader was picked up at his residence at No, 20 Igbehin Street by police operatives attached to Ibara Police Station. The other suspects, Odejinmi and Arogundade were also arrested at Akinlotan Compound and Ijeun Shekenu Compound respectively by the policemen on Thursday.”
Adejobi said that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Val Ntomchukwu, had directed that the DPO Ibara, to carry out preliminary investigation into the case before it would be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence for further investigation.
Ntomchukwu also reiterated the command’s commitment to provide adequate security for all indigenes of the state and beyond.
