Detectives from the Oyo State Police Command on Sunday, March 21, 2021, arrested three local hunters at Aba Ogbomoso Village in Saki, in the Oke Ogun area of Oyo State, in connection with the killing of three Fulani and razing of their huts.
A credible source revealed the names of the three suspects as Karimu Yusuf, Isaac Isaiah and Sunday Isaac. The deceased were two males and a female.
The Eagle Online learnt from a credible source that the hunters allegedly carried out reprisal after a farmer was killed by suspected Fulani on Friday, March 12.
It was learnt that Fulani robbers attacked the farmer, dispossessed his wife of N25,000, before killing him.
On Saturday, March 13, another man was said to have been attacked again by the robbers, but narrowly escaped death and got injured. None of the indigenes had been able to fish out the farmer’s killers and the attackers of the injured ones have still not been found.
The arrest of the three local hunters by police detectives from the Saki Division was effected when on Sunday the police got information that a group of hunters, who were involved in the arson and murder, were sighted at Aba Ogbomoso Village.
A single-barrel gun with six live cartridges was recovered from one of the hunters.
The Eagle Online learnt that during interrogation, one of them, Yusuf, told the police that other local hunters came from Saki to meet him at Aba Ogbomoso, asking him to follow them to the Fulani settlement to vent their anger.
He claimed that he was reluctant in following the other hunters, but was forced to.
Yusuf told the detectives that because the other hunters thought he might disclose their movement, his gun and phone were collected from him, and he was kept at a distance from where the incident occurred.
He said they later came back to meet him where he was kept, and denied knowing any act of arson or killing that took place.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Olugbenga Fadeyi, has confirmed the arrest of the three suspects, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigations.
