The Lagos State Police Command said it has arrested two men in connection with the killing of an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Tajudeen Olatunji Bakare.
Bakare was beaten to death in Apapa area of Lagos State on December 15, 2016.
Those arrested for his death were Usman Haman and Abubakar Ibrahim.
But Haman and Ibrahim denied knowledge of the death.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, told newsmen on Thursday that the two suspects were identified via a video that went viral after Bakare’s death by a mob.
Usman, however, said he was not at the scene of the incident.
He said that he was only aware of an accident that happened along Liverpool Bridge involving a commercial motorbike rider, popularly called okada, and his passenger.
He explained that when he got to the scene, he discovered that the cyclist was already dead, thus he took the passenger to the General Hospital, Apapa.
Usman said: “I was questioned at the hospital by a police officer.
“I told him that I brought an accident victim.
“The policeman said I should take him to Area B Police Station, Apapa.
“On getting there, I was arrested for being part of the suspects that stoned the LASTMA official to death.”
