Plateau CP warns politicians against violence during LG polls

The Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Chris Olakpe, on Wednesday in Jos warned politicians against using thugs to disrupt the February 25 local government elections in the state.
Olakpe told the News Agency of Nigeria in an interview that politicians, as stakeholders, should desist from political vices capable of disrupting the elections.
He said: “The command will deploy its officers and men to various polling units with the aim of checkmating the activities of any thug or miscreant.
“Anybody caught attempting to disrupt the election will be dealt with decisively.”
Olakpe urged the politicians to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during and after the elections so as not to disturb the hard earned peace in Jos.
He added: “This time around, no life will be lost during the elections in the 15 councils as it has happened in the past.
“We are ready to protect lives and property of individuals throughout the elections period. Any politician that is aggrieved should not take the laws into his hands.”
The commissioner called on all the political parties that would participate in the elections to cooperate with the police during the period to ensure adequate security.
Olakpe further called on the parties to provide vital information to the police about the activities of any mischievous person that may try to disrupt the elections.
