PDP won’t miss Obasanjo – Anenih

Chieftains of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party have been reacting to the exit of former President Olusegun Obasanjo from the party.

Obasanjo, who served as the president of Nigeria for eight years (1999-2007) later served as the party’s Chairman, Board of Trustees.

On Monday, while hosting PDP leaders from his Ward 11 Abeokuta North Local Government, Obasanjo tore his membership card and said he was leaving partisan politics to remain a statesman.

The incumbent BoT Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, while reacting, said the development is good riddance to bad rubbish.

Fielding questions form State House Correspondents after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in Aso Rock, Abuja, Anenih said Obasanjo has the right to join any party if he so desires.

Anenih said: “He (Obasanjo) has the right to leave any party and he has the right to join any party.

“Je is a Nigerian.”

Asked if he sees Obasanjo’s exit as a big loss to the PDP and whether they would miss him, he said: “Why should we miss him?

“To us leaders, it is not a loss.”
