PDP: We’ll participate in Ekiti LG poll, those calling for boycott are fifth columnists

The Ekiti State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has reaffirmed its readiness to participate in the forthcoming Local Government poll in the state, describing those calling for its boycott as fifth columnists. 
The party stated that comparing the mentality of the All Progressives Congress towards local government election conducted by other parties is a gross ignorance of the tradition of the PDP, the only party that had never boycotted any election in Nigeria. 
In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary of the Party, Jackson Adebayo, the PDP maintained that there is no amount of shenanigan by the ruling APC that would stop it from its resolve to participate in the election. 
Adebayo said: “We are aware of some fifth columnists among us who perhaps are working in collaboration with APC to stop PDP from participation in the election due to public opinions that favor us.”
The PDP explained that it was not unusual for some members to want to play fifth columnists in any political party, but when such action is established it would be naturally treated as an anti-party activity. 
Adebayo said: “We therefore call on all our members to ignore the rantings of some individuals against our participation in the council election, rather we should concentrate our energy on strategies that can win the election for us instead of allowing some black agents to plant distraction in the Party.”
Adebayo, who said apart from the decision of the State Executive Committee of the party to participate in the election, the State working Committee has been up and down in the preparations for the election, adding that all necessary forms have been obtained by its candidates, while the party has concluded all documentation at the State Independent Electoral Commission and only waiting for substitution if any need arises. 
The PDP spokesman also explained that the party had put some mechanisms in place to ensure that unity reigns supreme in the party, which informed why imposition of any form was not allowed in the primaries of the candidates unlike what was the case in the APC.
