Two weeks after the Peoples Democratic Party lost the presidential election to its main challenger, the All Progressives Congress, its contract staff have embarked on an indefinite strike in protest the non-payment of their three months salary.
Consequently, the premises of the party’s National Secretariat and offices are now terribly unkempt.
The development has made most senior staff of the PDP secretariat to stay away from their offices.
An official of the party spoken to said top officers of the party have all travelled to their respective constituencies for Saturday’s governorship and state Assembly elections.
The contract workers, who were engaged through their company, Sabobak Kleen & Associates, disclosed to media men in Abuja that the company was owed arrears of contract services.
Findings showed the PDP pays the company N5 million monthly, while the company in turn pays each of the the workers N14,000.
The company, it was gathered, was paid N6 million in December 2014 and has since then not received any further payment.
One of the striking staff said: “We have decided, among ourselves, to boycott all the cleaning activities of the offices and the environment until we have being paid the three months salaries they owe us.
“If they pay us, we shall resume duty on Tuesday.”
