Former Minister of Aviation and vocal critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, Femi Fani-Kayode, has endorsed the aspiration of Lere Olayinka, the Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, to become the next National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Fani-Kayode made his position known on his Twitter handle on Sunday.
He tweeted; “I wish to express my support for Lere Olayinka for the position of National Publicity Secretary of the PDP. Lere will do an excellent job.”
Fani-Kayode was earlier rumoured to be interested in the National Publicity Secretary position until he debunked the rumour through his Facebook page.
Also, it was posted on Facebook Sunday that former Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Olorogun Eddy Olafeso, and Ogun State born Segun Sowunmi, who earlier declared interest to contest the party’s National Publicity Secretary position have declared support for Olayinka.
Olafeso is now being positioned for the position of National Vice Chairman (South West) of the PDP.
It should be recalled that PDP members in the United States of America had in a letter dated May 4 and addressed to the PDP National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sherrif, endorsed Olayinka.
The PDP members said: “Lere Olayinka’s loyalty to the party is highly commendable and for these reasons and many more, PDP-USA is endorsing him for the position of Publicity Secretary to PDP-Nigeria.”
The letter was endorsed by the Chairman, Harold Molokwu; Deputy Chairman, Isaac Adelugbugbe; Secretary, Muharija Gadah; Deputy Secretary, Adebayo Babawande; Treasurer, Ibrahim Dango; Publicity Secretary, Patrick Utin; Woman Leader, Comfort Balogun; Organizing Secretary, Evans Wilcox; Youth Leader, Paul Frank Ogedegbe; and Deputy Youth Leader, Emmanuel Akorede.
It read in part: “We PDP-USA members observed the dedication of Hon. Lere Olayinka to PDP as he seeks what is best for our great party. He is a man of high integrity and an outstanding public servant.”
