In a bid to resolve further the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, the leadership of the party will on Wednesday (today) evening meet with senators elected on the platform of the party.
The National Working Committee of the party, under the leadership of its National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, is set to meet with the senators at the Apo, Abuja residence of the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark.
Mark announced the meeting during the plenary on Wednesday.
Some of the senators elected on the platform of the party have threatened to defect to the All Progressives Congress.
Eleven of them were said to have written a letter to Mark, informing him of their decision to leave for the APC.
They were led by a former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
Their letter is however yet to be read on the floor of the Senate.
Some state governors, led by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Barrister Godswill Akpabio, are expected to attend the meeting.
Mu’azu and some members of the NWC had on Wednesday met with the members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of the party.
The Representatives had told Mu’azu that one of the conditions for stemming the crisis in the party from their end will be to guarantee them automatic tickets to return to the House in 2015.
Thirty-seven members of the House elected on the platform of the PDP have so far defected to the APC.
