The Peoples Democratic Party, Rivers State chapter, on Sunday described the reported walk-out by the member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency of Rivers State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, during the 2014 Budget presentation by the Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, to members of the House Committee on Works, as ill-conceived and negligence of legislative responsibility.
The PDP said rather than staging a walk-out, thereby denying the people his useful contribution and intervention in the issues contained in the presentation, Peterside should have actively participated in the proceedings like other members of the Committee, to ensure that the vexed issues and identified omissions (if any) are rectified accordingly.
The PDP said it is regrettable that Peterside abandoned his responsibility at the time at a forum he needed to act.
It said by that action, the people of the state and the area he represents might not have another opportunity to correct the alleged abnormally in the content of the budget on works and infrastructural development in the area.
The party further observed that whatever was considered to have led to taking such action was not rational enough.
It said his input, hopefully, would have made some improvement in the budget appropriation as it concerns parts of the South South region.
