The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria has condemned last Friday’s terror attacks in Paris, France that left many people dead, calling for serious global actions against terrorism.
The Association also urged the Federal Government to evolve a strategy of checking illegal immigration into Nigeria and tighten security around the nation’s borders.
It said this was a way of securing Nigerians and also checking terror attacks in the North Eastern part of Nigeria and staving off terrorism from other parts of the country.
In a statement issued by its National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Emmanuel Ojugbana, PENGASSAN commiserated with France, the families of the victims and other countries whose citizens may have been affected by the terror attacks.
Comrade Ojugbana called on the United Nations and all peace loving countries to intensify their fight against terrorism through the multilateral campaign and cooperation to bring terrorists and their activities to a halt.
He said: “The war against terror is not an easy win war like conventional one because the terrorists and their mastermind will always look for opportunity to strike at the least expected time when security is relaxed and situation seems calm.
“This is why we are calling on the Federal Government to ensure that all our borders, either air, sea or land is effectively and efficiently policed to prevent terrorists and their sponsors from entering our country. We asked that modern technology should be deployed to all borders especially the porous land borders.”
Comrade Ojugbana, who commended the security agencies’ efforts to keep to the December deadline handed to them by President Muhammadu Buhari to end insurgency in the North East, said the fact that ISIS mentioned Boko Haram in its Twitter message is a pointer that Nigeria could be a target by the terror group.
It therefore behoves on all Nigerians and the security agencies in particular to brace up to defend the country against any terror attacks, the group said.
