The President of the Para-powerlifting Federation of Nigeria, Queen Obuh, has rejected the results of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria elections, saying the exercise was in contravention of body’s guideline.
Obuh, who is gunning for the PCN president’s position, alleged that the electoral process was bungled to satisfy their billings of some other candidates.
She said: “The elections lacked merit in all ramifications and the evidences are there. Most of the zonal representatives were not eligible to vote. Most of them were hand picked by the officials of the Sports Ministry on the election day.
“One of the zonal representatives claimed Para Tennis but to my amazement Kano State Director of Sports said they don’t do such sport in Kano.
“Several irregularities marred the elections as we also had an athlete whose election to become player’s representative from Para-Powerlifting is still inconclusive was allowed to vote.
“It is in the PCN constitution that the Sports Ministry role was to monitor the elections but the officials led by Dr. Toyin Aluko jettisoned it and they opted to conduct it. I believe there is clear difference between to monitor and conduct.
“You won’t imagine that the PCN elections had no returning officers or candidates representatives to receive votes on behalf of the candidates. So, how do we know given us at the end of the exercise. This is rather unfortunate and unacceptable.
“For me, there was no elections on Tuesday. What they did was kangaroo and it cannot stand. I must challenge it in court. I’m a freedom fighter. I’m an activist. I will ensure sanity returns to our sports.”
The Secretary General of the Paralympics Committee Nigeria, Dr. Frank Thorpe, however denied the allegation, saying due process were observed in the condition of the exercise.
The Paralympic Committee is an umbrella body of the Para Sports in Nigeria.
