The management of Osun Babes Football Club of Osogbo will on Sunday begin screening prospective players who will join 18 players it retained after laying off 10 others.
The Team Manager, Johnson Kehinde, while announcing this after the management’s meeting held on Monday in Osogbo, said the sacked players have been placed on the transfer market.
He said newly-selected players would help to fortify the team as the club prepares for the 2017/18 NWPL season.
Kehinde said: “However, this does not mean that any of the 18 players retained will have an automatic shirt in the team.’’
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Osun Babes FC finished fifth in the Nigeria Women Professional League (NWPL) at the end of the 2016/2017 season.
Kehinde added that he was building a more formidable team for the new NWPL season, saying this led to the decision to release some of the club’s players.
He listed the players who would be leaving the club as: Esther Emaowodia, Rukayat Abdulsalam, Mamuzo Edafe, Faith Nwando, Loveth Edeh, Yetunde Oke, Grace Marcus, Chinyere Kalu, Seun Atanda and Glory Afonja.
The team manager said the retained players include: Christiana Obia, Linda Jiwuaku, Esther Elijah, Sarah Iloduba, Abiodun Adebayo, Rosemary Okoro, Sarah Yakubu, Kehinde Salaudeen, Grace Peter and Rachael Akpojotor.
The rest are: Hannah Amos, Kemi Abiodun, Esther Ossai, Ayomide Ojo, Rejoice Ikoyo, Mary Anjor, Precious Edewor and Kesiana Ojiyouwi.
