The Edo state Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has commissioned a brand new 2,500-metre capacity water borehole drilling rig recently acquired by the state government at Agbede in Etsako West Local Government Area, with a promise to use the resources of the state for the people’s welfare.
The governor said with the new borehole, which has the capacity to crack through rocks, no part of the state will be left without potable water.
According to him: “My business is to make things happen and not to lament. I have directed them to locate the borehole, which will have an overhead tank to the heart of the city, around the palace from where the water will be distributed to other parts of the town. From there, it can be distributed to the North, East, South and to the West of Agbede and that way everybody will have water.
“When they finish distributing the water, and those who can afford it will pipe it to their houses and the drilling rig will move to Avwain, Jagbe and Aviele, to provide water for these communities. We want to do it quickly before the rain starts. Today we are demonstrating that these communities will now have water.”
The governor said that he has only one purpose in government, adding: “To become a governor is not a big deal, but it is a big honour that people assembled and ask you to be entrusted with their resources.”
He advised politicians to remember that resources that are entrusted in their hand are not for their pocket, rather it is for the good of the people.
“That is why today, I am excited and I move with confidence and I talk with authority because in 2007 when PDP (the Peoples Democratic Party) said to Edo people there is no money in this land, in my campaign then I said there is money in this land, what they lacked was the will and discipline to know the difference between private pocket and public welfare,” he added.
Meanwhile, 132 members of the Esan Community in the PDP, led by Chief Napoleon Mark, Chairman of the Esan Community, Agbede, have decamped to the Action Congress of Nigeria.
Earlier, the Oba of Agbede, HRH Alhaji Momoh Sani Momodu, thanked the governor for keeping to his promise and assured him of over 12,000 votes out of the 13,200 votes in Ayuele clan.
He later presented a copy of the Holy Quran, praying mat and beads and offered prayers for the Comrade Governor.
