Ogogoro: Rivers death toll rises

The Rivers State Government on Wednesday said the death toll from the consumption of local gin, popularly called ogogoro, has risen to 66.
The Federal Government had earlier in the week put the death toll at 38.
This figure was disclosed by the Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Dr. Paul Orhii.
But on Wednesday, the Permanent Secretary in the Rivers State Ministry of Health, Dr. Somiari Harry, disclosed to newsmen that the figure had risen to 66.
Harry said efforts were on to ensure the stoppage of the consumption of the local gin until further notice.
