OGITECH expels two for indecency

The Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa, said on Wednesday that it had expelled two of its students for indecency.
The Rector of the institute, Dr. Olufunke Akinkurolere, disclosed this at the matriculation of about 2, 000 students of the institution for the 2018 academic year held in Igbesa.
Akinkurolere said that a few other students had been placed on suspension for various offences and warned the new intakes not to engage in activities capable of truncating their academic pursuits.
The rector said the institution had zero tolerance for cultism, examination malpractice, rape, indecent dressing and other anti-social behaviour.
She said the management would not hesitate to wield the big stick on erring students to ensure discipline.
Akinkurolere told the new students that violation of rules and regulations of the institution attracted sanctions ranging from suspension, rustication and outright expulsion.
She also enjoined them to take advantage of the school’s entrepreneurship programme to acquire skills to become self-employed at the end of their studies.
She said: “The entrepreneurship programme has been designed to assist students in acquiring necessary skills needed to be employers of labour rather than waiting for unavailable government job.”
Earlier, Modupe Mujota, the Ogun Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology, had urged the new students to concentrate on their studies, with a view to becoming future leaders.
She noted that with the influx of industries into the state, graduates of the institute would be of high demand in the nearest future.
