Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has described ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo as a “rare gem” whose dedication to Nigeria’s unity remains unmatched.
Atiku made the remarks in a statement issued on Wednesday to celebrate Obasanjo’s 88th birthday, acknowledging the former leader’s role in fostering national cohesion and inclusiveness.
“Baba, even your opponents will concede that your commitment to the unity of Nigeria is bar none,” Atiku stated.
He lauded Obasanjo’s leadership approach, emphasizing that the former president had consistently pursued policies that promoted a unified Nigeria, irrespective of ethnic, religious, or political differences.

“It was an honour to have served with you in advancing a pan-Nigerian agenda to give everyone, irrespective of tribe and tongue, religion or political inclinations, the opportunity to thrive for the greater good of our people and beloved country,” he added.
Extending his well wishes, Atiku, who served as vice president from 1999 to 2007 under Obasanjo’s administration, prayed for the elder statesman’s continued good health and service to humanity.
