The Lagos State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Monday said that it might sanction its members who protested against Ambassador Musiliu Obanikoro’s ministerial nomination.
The party was reacting to a recent protest by the Eti-Osa Local Government Area chapter of the PDP National Youth Vanguard against Obanikoro’s nomination.
Obanikoro, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, was recently nominated along with 10 others by the Federal Government.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Taofik Gani, the chapter described the protest as mischievous.
Gani said: “The attack has by extension maligned the integrity of the party to nominate its qualified members for national service; we take this as disloyalty to the party.
“The so-called National Youth Vanguard is a support group that ought to function in line with the aims and objectives of the party organs.
“Indeed, we can also smell that the protest was sponsored.”
The chapter advised groups and individuals to desist from arrogating to themselves, the powers and privileges of its executive council.
“We caution that further embarrassing actions against the party organ by any group or individual in the party shall be treated as anti-party and consequent sanction meted,” the party added.
According to the party, the state executive council of the party supported Obanikoro’s nomination and expected all persons and groups in the party to give their support.
