Obada’s attack on Oyinlola: Top Osun PDP members call for restraint

Some prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State have called on leaders of the party to exercise restraint in their utterances in the interest of the party.
Spokespersons of the group of PDP members also described as uncharitable and most unexpected, some recent media statements credited to a former Deputy Governor of the state, Erelu Olusola Obada, in which she attacked her former boss and former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
In a statement issued in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Monday and co-signed by a former member of the Osun State House Assembly, Hon. Soji Adagunodo Oluwatukesi, and former Chairman of Osogbo Local Government Area, Teslim Igbalaye, the group described the development as most regrettable considering Oyinlola’s closeness to Obada over the years.
The group said Obada’s reaction “could be likened to that of a politician seeking relevance and patronage and who must attack Oyinlola to be able to satisfy her bosses that she is indeed in political reckoning.”
The group added that it became imperative to remark that it is unimaginable that some politicians could sacrifice long term relationship on the altar of politics and ambitions.
The group counselled that it is always better for political leaders to be conscientious and credible commentators given the fact that they could easily misrepresent facts and issues thus misleading members of the public.
The group also faulted Obada’s claim in the newspaper interview that the PDP Board of Trustees is the highest ranking organ of the party when in fact the PDP constitution states clearly that the National Convention is supreme.
It also faulted Obada’s claim that she is a member of the BoT of the PDP, explaining that she was a member because the President, in his capacity as leader of the PDP, was allowed to nominate six ministers and six state governors as members of the BoT.
“Therefore, it stands to reason that Obada did not know that she is no longer a member of the BoT because any of those nominated as a result of their holding ministerial appointments ceased from being members of the PDP BoT after vacating office,” the group said.
It then advised Obada to “direct her frustrations at those who engineered her removal from office as a result of a petition against her by members of her group and newly-found political associates in the PDP, afterall, she was privileged to read a copy of the petition at the Presidency.
“Politicians in Osun State and beyond truly know those who are politically relevant and who maintain an open-door policy.
“In the South-west PDP, everybody knows the impact and disposition of cabinet ministers like Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide to her people.”
