A Nigerian, Olayinka Fajemite, who asked a question on the Twitter handle of Oando in October 2016, has been employed by the oil giant.
Fajemite had taken to the Twitter handle of Oando to ask how many retweets it will take to get him employed.
He tweeted: “@OandoPLC, how many Retweets to get employment at Oando.”
To his surprise, the company responded, saying: “Unfortunately, we don’t do retweets for employment, but for 2000 retweets we can offer you a 1-month internship.”
He beat the 2,000 retweet challenge by doing well over 3,000 through the assistance of his friends.
He took up the challenge of the internship, which lasted for one month.
The company said Fajemite did so well that he has today been offered a full time job.
Olayinka said: “I was completely stunned that they had replied and even more stunned at the opportunity – this was my dream company, giving me a shot on twitter! I couldn’t believe it.”
Fajemite’s story was said to have been so profound that it got recognized by Oando’s Group Chief Executive, Wale Tinubu, who then tweeted: “Well done Olayinka, your audacity is truly laudable.”
Fajemite had the internship at Oando from October 12, 2016 and was said to have left such a strong impression that the company nominated him for a full-time role a year later.
He said: “I couldn’t believe my luck, it really is unheard of in Lagos today, to have gotten a job in the most unconventional way.”
He was said to have been interviewed with five other applicants and was selected for the role, which he began in January 2018.
