No fewer than 1,204 corps members were, were sworn-in Tuesday by the Chief Judge of Sokoto State, Justice Sa’idu Sifawa, for 2022 Batch A, Stream I service year in the state.
Justice Sifawa, who was represented by Chief Magistrate Abubakar Adamu, administered oaths to the corps members, comprising 609 males and 565 females, at Wamakko NYSC permanent orientation camp.
He urged the corps members to be law-abiding and respect NYSC rules at all times.
The State’s Coordinator of NYSC, Alhaji Muhammadu Nakamba, urged the new corps members to participate in skill acquisition training designed to promote
self-reliance and encourage productive living, especially among youths.
“More than eight skill acquisition programmes were designed for corps members, in collaboration with some agencies, to facilitate the training programmes,” the Coordinator said.
He advised the corps members to avail themselves the opportunities, adding that partnership with trainers and funding institutions were carefully being implemented to avoid fraud and other illegal dealings.
Nakamba, who urged them to be disciplined in their relationship with NYSC authorities and their host communities, however, cautioned them against engaging in unnecessary travelling.
He also urged the corps members to be security conscious, owing to the security challenges current facing the country, and be wary of their associations.
Nakamba enjoined them to strive for national development in all aspects and be part of change agents in the society.
The orientation camp, according to him, is to ensure corps members’ wellbeing and motivate them for the lined up programmes, aimed at preparing them for future challenges.
The state Coordinator advised them to put the nation’s development first, promote virtues and downplay sentiments, in the interest of national unity.
The corps members were also sensitised on the COVID-19 pandemic and breast cancer, as well as other health tips.
