With a vote of 302,986, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and a former Governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Murtala Nyako, has emerged the winner of the gubernatorial election held in the state on Saturday.
The results from the 21 local government areas of the state showed that Nyako had votes that met the required spread of at least 25 per cent of the votes cast in the election in at least two-third of the local government areas.
He won in 13 out of the 21 local government areas of the state.
The candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Markus Gundiri, who came second, got 260,405 votes, emerging top in eight out of the state’s 21 local government areas.
Highly rated candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Buba Marwa, was third.
Marwa, a former Military Administrator of Lagos State and Nigeria’s former High Commissioner to South Africa, scored 107,564 votes.
He even lost in his home base, Michika Local Government Area.
