The National Universities Commission says it will pave the way for the acceptance of Cambridge International Examination, UK, for admission into Nigerian universities.
This was contained in the commission’s weekly news bulletin made available to newsmen in Abuja on Tuesday.
The bulletin said the NUC Executive Secretary, Prof. Julius Okojie, disclosed this when he received a delegation from Cambridge University in Abuja.
The bulletin quoted Okojie as saying the partnership would enable students who passed the Cambridge International Examination to gain admission into any Nigerian university.
He expressed the commission’s willingness to do everything within its mandate to develop the education sector.
He said: “CIE is an equivalent of West African Examination Council and it could become
a qualification for entrance into Nigerian universities.
“You should partner with WAEC and NECO so as to ensure that the standards used for the Nigerian examinations applied to CIE.”
The publication quoted the leader of the delegation, Mark Barber, as saying that CIE, when integrated into the Nigerian education system, would enhance the recognition of Nigerian universities.
Barber said that CIE would enable qualified students from the UK and other parts of the world to enroll into Nigerian universities.
