Transactions on the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Wednesday, for the second consecutive day, maintained the upbeat trend with the market indicators recording further growth.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the market capitalisation rose by N68 billion or 0.57 per cent to close at N11.91 trillion on Tuesday.
The All-Share Index grew by 213.28 points or 0.58 per cent to close at 37,259.91 against the 37,046.63 achieved on Tuesday due to price growth.
Market analysts attributed the growth to improved 2012 audited and first quarter 2013 results released by some quoted companies.
They said that the results had boosted investors’ confidence in the equities market.
NAN reports that Total Nigeria led the gainers’ chart, rising by N11.10 to close at N170 per share.
Cadbury came second on the gainers’ chart, appreciating by N4.85 to close at N53.35, while Mobil inched by N4 to close at N118 per share.
Glaxo Smithkline gained N3.90 to close at N52.90, while Ashaka Cement grew by N2.45 to close at N27 per share.
On the other hand, Nigerian Breweries topped the price losers, depreciating by N1.97 to close at N173.03 per share.
Julius Berger lost N1 to close at N55, while Tourist Company shed 45k to close at N4.03 per share.
Flour Mills and UBN lost 35k each to close at N85.65 and N9.35 per share, respectively.
In all, a total of 468.75 million shares worth N4.12 billion were exchanged by investors in 6,228 deals.
This was against the 466.67 million shares valued at N7.89 billion exchanged in 6,727 deals on Tuesday.
Custodian Insurance drove the activity chart, accounting for 67.77 million shares worth N110.44 million.
Fidelity Bank came second with 42.55 million shares valued at N132.64 million, while Costain recorded a turnover of 33.26 million shares worth N40.19 million.
