NSCDC boss seeks collaboration with service chiefs to tackle oil theft

In curbing the activities of oil theft, illegal bunkering and vandalism of critical infrastructure and national assets of government, the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr. Ade Abolurin. is seeking for collaboration and partnership with the Nigeria Armed Forces.
The call for the stronger collaboration, aimed at putting an end to the illicit businesses and nefarious acts by saboteurs of the nation’s economy, became imperative considering the daily loss of gross domestic product and the national income, which in turn has brought untold hardship to the people, abolurin said.
Abolurin made these known during courtesy calls to the offices of the three Service Chiefs – the Chief of Army, Air and Naval Staff – to congratulate them on their appointments and to as well chart the way forward in tackling security challenges bedeviling the country, especially as it concerns the wanton destruction of critical infrastructure and oil theft.
Abolurin stressed that Nigerians can only appreciate the efforts of security operatives when all the agencies, irrespective of service, can come together to fight a common battle of making life more meaningful for the populace.
Abolurin reiterated that the worst that can happen to the nation is losing public confidence in security operatives and recording failure in support of the Transformation Agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan in restoring peace and harmony in the society.
The Service Chiefs in their various responses assured the Commandant General of their total support in stamping out vandalism and oil theft in order to ensure that the democratic legacy of the President is sustained and maintained.
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Kenneth Minimah, acknowledged the role and contribution of the Corps personnel serving with the Joint Task Force in Niger Delta and other Special Task Forces across the Federation in curbing insecurity.
Minimah assured him of maximum cooperation and better working relationship among the organizations.
Similarly, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Adesola Amosu, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Usman Jubril, also emphasised on the continuity of the existing relationship between the Corps and their officers and men.
Jubril made reference to the arrests made by the JTF and the Navy on the high seas and subsequent handing over to the Corps for interrogation and prosecution.
Jointly, it was agreed that if all the services should come together and face the enemies of the nation, the country will be a safe haven with the people living a meaningful life by enjoying the dividends of democracy.
They all praised the efforts of the Corps, its transformation and achievements within the short period of existence and promised total support in making it an enviable service.
Abolurin pledged the commitment and harmonious working relationship of the Corps with all the services and stressed that they should see the Corps as an organization in its infancy that needs their tutelage and support to grow in all ramifications.
He said that despite the training received from various bodies, more is still required for repositioning.
