The Borno State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaji Saina Buba, said henceforth football lovers would be paying to watch the state team, El-Kanemi Warriors FC, matches in Maiduguri.
He made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Maiduguri, the state capital, on Monday.
Buba said since the return of relative peace to the state, most sports lovers had been enjoying free access to watch the team’s matches.
The Commissioner said the development was no longer tenable if the state sports council was to generate revenue to support the team.
Buba said the government was ready to commercialise the team’s games to interested individuals or groups who would pay for any match and then sell their tickets to recoup their money and gain.
He said that the government had settled all outstanding dues of El-Kanemi team and players.
He said that everything needed to be done would be done to ensure the team tops the Division One league and move to the Premier league.

Buba said: “We want to thank Governor Babagana Zulum for prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements of the club.
“We are topping the league and won all our eight matches except the Sunday match we lost to Zamfara United.
“This year, Insha Allah, we are going to the premier league.”
The Commissioner also announced the disbursement of cash rewards to athletes who won medals at the last National Sports Festival and Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State in 2023.
