Abia Warriors of Umuahia, Crown FC of Ogbomoso and FC Taraba of
Jalingo have joined Jos-based Giwa FC as the newly-promoted sides to
next season’s Nigerian Professional Football League.
This followed the conclusion of the 2012/2013 Nigeria National League
on Saturday in the competition’s two groups across the country.
FC Taraba joined Group A leaders, Giwa FC, after beating the Jos-based
side 1-0 in their Week 30 match to leapfrog into second position ahead
of promotion hopefuls, Ranchers FC.
They thus finished with 48 points from 28 matches, after 16 wins and
12 losses, with the Kaduna side dropping into fourth position.
Giwa FC topped the group with 50 points from 14 wins, eight draws and
six losses in 28 matches, and the 0-1 away loss did not affect their
position.
Ranchers, who had 46 points from 15 wins, one draw and 12 losses,
meanwhile missed out on promotion.
This followed a 1-2 away loss to Plateau United of Jos, who moved into
third place.
Plateau United ended up with 46 points also, from 14 wins, four draws
and 10 losses, and edged Ranchers into fourth on goals difference.
JUTH FC of Jos failed to escape relegation as they could only manage a
1-1 draw with hosts, FC Abuja, who also went down into the Nigeria
Nation-Wide League.
JUTH finished in 13th place with 35 points from 10 wins, five draws
and 13 losses, while FC Abuja finished in 15th place.
The Abuja side ended up with 26 points after only six wins, eight
draws and 14 losses in 28 matches.
Kogi United FC of Lokoja, who drew 1-1 with Spotlight FC, joined the
two and already-relegated Zamfara United FC, after placing 14th.
They had 32 points from 28 matches after 10 wins, two draws and 16 losses.
In other matches in the group, Niger Tornadoes FC of Minna beat
fifth-placed DSS FC of Kaduna 1-0 to finish in 11th place.
Adamawa United FC of Yola also placed 12th after a 2-0 win over Jigawa
Stars of Dutse.
In Group B, Abia Warriors maintained the top spot after a 4-0 win over
Akwa Starlets, who ended up in eighth place.
The Warriors thus finished with 45 points from 14 wins, three draws
and nine losses in 26 matches.
Crown FC joined them after a 1-0 win over Fountain FC, who failed to
escape relegation after placing 14th with 24 points from 26 matches.
The Ogbomoso-based had 44 points from 26 matches after 14 wins, two
draws and 10 losses.
Gateway FC of Abeokuta ended in third place after a 2-1 win over MFM
FC for 43 points from 26 matches, following 14 wins, one draw and 13
losses.
Remo Stars dropped from third into fourth after a 1-3 loss to COD FC
ensured they finished with 41 points after 13 wins, two draws and 11
losses.
COD however joined Fountain in dropping to the lower league in spite of the win.
In other matches in the group, Abia Comets placed 10th after a 2-0 win
over Bendel Insurance of Benin who ended a place above them on the
table.
Prime FC of Osogbo finished in 11th place after a 2-0 win over UNICEM
Rovers of Calabar.
