The umbrella body of coaches in Nigeria, the Nigeria Coaches Association, has saluted Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi, for winning the African Cup of Nations trophy in South Africa.
In a statement signed by the Secretary, Coach Solomon Ogbeide, on behalf of the chairman, Chief Adegboye Onigbinde, the association said it was delighted that a Nigerian led the Super Eagles to triumph in South Africa.
“By this feat, Keshi has made a bold statement that Nigerian coaches are equally good if not better than foreign coaches working in the continent,” the statement begins.
The NCA lampooned the Nigeria Football Federation for ‘terrorising’ Keshi while the Nations Cup was still on with the threat of sack, adding that unless the football federation desists from such act, Nigerian football will remain underdeveloped.
The statement said further: “Keshi deserves all the accolades he’s getting now because land mines were actually laid for him.
“Despite the noise about giving him all necessary support, the NFF still doubted Keshi’s competence.
“What Keshi has done is victory for the Nigerian coaches; he has clearly demonstrated that we know our players more than the foreign contractors.
“On behalf of the Nigerian coaches, we want to felicitate with Keshi and the Super Eagles for doing what our administrators think was impossible.
“Keshi’s triumph is victory for all of us.”
