Arrangements have been concluded by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to join the rest of the world in celebrating this year World Water Day in Nigeria.
It should be recalled that in 1992, the United Nations General Assembly dedicated March 22 every year as World Water Day.
Since March 22, 2015 is a Sunday, the Ministry has decided to mark the event on March 23.
The Theme of this year’s celebration is: “Water and Sustainable Development.”
This underscores the importance of fresh water in sustainable socio-economic development of the world.
The purpose of the celebration is to raise public awareness on conscious management of fresh water for sustainable development.
Programme of events for the celebration include a sensitization walk on March 23, 2015.
The walk will start from the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki and terminate at Vines Hotel, Durumi District, Abuja.
Thereafter, a symposium and exhibition will take place on the same date and at the same venue.
All stakeholders in the water sector are expected to participate in the event.
